Wednesday Wanderings

Wednesday, July 26, 7:15---Heading to school for a day of presentations, laughs, and general horseing around!

Lasma's classes prepared presentations. It was a great to watch them present and role play!

The English Club prepared a drama they wrote the script, created the scenes, and acted out! These are some talented people y'all! They really worked hard on their English and it paid off. I'm so proud to have witnessed it!

You can see the love and caring Lasma has for her students and can tell that they feel the same way about her! We've talked a couple of times about the importance of forming a relationship with students in order to reach and teach them! She has this down, and the great part is, it is genuine! After students presented, we were able to tell a bit about our state and answer questions. Students are concerned that the US does not see them in a positive light because they are Muslim.

I reassured them that we do understand that everyone is not the same! These kids as well as Indonesia in general are super welcoming. Outside our hotel, we are mostly met with curiosity and questions for photos. There is an innocence here in the general public that is refreshing!

After about a million photos, selfies, and boomerangs with (I think) every student in the school at least twice, we loaded up and headed to the beach!

It is easy to see that the islands that make up Indonesia are volcanic. Driving down (and up, and down) to the beach at Padang Cermin, was a great treat! The mountains (or are they large hills?) were beautiful in the outlined sky. When we arrive at Marine Eco Park and grabbed some black coffee, we watched the sun go down over the water. It was fun to watch the bats dive around the shoreline and relax listening to the waves as we sipped our coffee. Heading home we discussed life where we live and the realities of economic inequality, children, and life. It was the perfect nightcap to a great day! Tomorrow we are off to the Office of Tourism, UNILA, Lampung and other parts unknown!
